In the 2025-2026 school year, New York State will become the first state to provide “distraction-free” public schools statewide. The policy states that there will be no unsanctioned use of smartphones and other internet-enabled personal devices (such as headphones and smartwatches) on school grounds in K-12 schools for the entire school day including lunch time.
